Heshan Berents-Weeramuni

This week’s Paw Prints from Principal Katie Grassa:

  • 8th Annual Curley Night At The Museum Of Science: Come join Curley friends and families for an awesome 8th ANNUAL EVENING AT THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE on Friday, January 22nd 3:30-9:00 PM. Tickets are only $5.00 per person (parking is $5), and discounted tickets are also available for four different movies in the giant Omni Theatre! Buy event tickets at: www.biddingforgood.com/curleyk8 (“Live Event” / Order Tickets) or send in cash/check to your teacher with backpack flyer was sent home. Note: This is NOT a fundraiser, just a fantastically social and community building event we want our families to enjoy! In fact, it is one of the social highlights of the year for the Curley community. If you have a membership to the MOS, you may use it to get in and do not need to purchase tickets in advance, however, Mugar Omni Theater tickets will not be discounted unless purchased along with Curley $5 entry.
  • Book Swap: The Winter Book Swap has been rescheduled to Friday, January 29th! Students in Grades K2-5 will be able to choose a “new to you” book from the donated collection during their lunch period.

    WE NEED MORE BOOKS!

Look for the blue donation boxes in the Upper and Lower school lobbies. The deadline for donating books for the book swap is Thursday, January 28th. Please contact Caitlyn Gable (Lower School- cmcsheffrey@bostonpublicschools.org) or Eileen Cronin (Upper School – ecronin@bostonpublicschools.org) with any questions.

  • ACCESS Testing: ACCESS Testing will take place this week for all English Language Learners. This week we will focus on the reading and writing and the remaining weeks on the individual speaking portions of the test. Please contact Waverly Kidd for details (wkidd@bostonpublicschools.org).
  • Music Performances: Join us for Two Curley Winter Music Events!

Parents are invited to attend your child’s music class during the week of February 1-5, 2016 to experience vocal and instrumental performance and teaching. A forthcoming flyer will indicate your child’s music class day and time.

  • Snow: In preparation for the winter we would like to ask all families to speak with their children about throwing snow. We want all students to be safe as they enter and exit school and we are asking that all adults and students leave the snow on the ground during those times. We are also asking that families and students use the shoveled spaces to walk and do not walk through the snowy yard. This is to help assure that no one falls and gets hurt. Thank you!
  • Labeling Coats: We are asking families to label their child’s coat on the inside tag. This way if the coat gets lost we can return it to the rightful owner. We have had many winter coats end up in the lost & found and we want to prevent this from continuing.
  • School Showcase: Thank you to the families who volunteered time last year to help prospective families make informed choices about schools for their child next year. We have one more showcase session this Thursday, January 14th from 3-4pm. Please email Arusha Hollister if you are interested in helping out or sign up here.
  • Arrival: Please keep in mind that the doors open at 8:15am and the official school day begins promptly at 8:30am. Please make sure to have your child arrive on time for the start of the day. Families are welcome to accompany their child to the class each morning between 8:15-8:35. After 8:35am all students will be marked tardy and cannot be escorted by families members to class.
  • Dismissal: Dismissal begins at 2:25pm. We are asking all families to remain outside at dismissal. We are also asking families to not release students after 1:45pm. It makes for a hectic dismissal and is disruptive to classroom learning. Also to assure the safety of the 300+ students who participate in afterschool activities we will not be able to allow families back into the building to use the facilities after dismissal. There are not staff on duty to supervise this past 2:45pm.
