This week’s Paw Prints from Principal Katie Grassa:

- Grade 4 Open House: We will host an open house for the families of all rising 4th graders (current 3rd graders) on February 29th from 9:30am-10:30am in the auditorium. This is a great opportunity to meet all of our 4th grade teachers, hear about the curriculum and see classrooms. We hope you can join us!
- Health and Wellness: Join Us! Volunteers anted for K-8 Environmental Health Walk-through! The Curley Health and Wellness Committee will be conducting an Environmental Walk-through of the Curley K-8 in Jamaica Plain, MA on Tuesday, March 1st, 7:30-9:30am. We are looking for roughly 20-40 volunteers to participate in a survey of the environmental/health conditions at the school. Please sign up below or by using our digital signup at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CurleyK8Walkthrough. - SPC: The March SPC Meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 2nd from 8:45am-10:45am in the Upper School Room 221. All families are encouraged to attend.
- Uniform Survey: The SSC wants to hear from every family/staff member about their thoughts on uniforms at the Curley K-8 School. This is a yearly poll to gather information before the SSC votes on whether or not to have a uniform for next school year. Please take the time to complete this survey http://goo.gl/forms/YVgo87NEZy.
- Curley Basketball Team: Our basketball season will begin this week with home games on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. The girls will play at 3:30pm and the boys will play at 4:30pm. Go Flying Lions!
- Principal Breakfast: Please join us for the March Principal Breakfast in the Upper School Room 221. We will be discussing the Curley Instructional Focus and some budget updates for next year. All families are welcome.
- 9th Annual Silent Auction: The 9th Annual Curley Silent Auction will take place on Tuesday, March 29th at Canary Square. Please save the date and join us for our largest fundraiser of the year. If you are interested in helping out or donating an item to auction off please email Ann DeGeorge at ann.c.degeorge@gmail.com. All of the proceeds from this event directly impact students at the Curley and support arts, science and technology.
- Snow: Throughout the rest of the winter we would like to ask all families to speak with their children about throwing snow. We want all students to be safe as they enter and exit school and we are asking that all adults and students leave the snow on the ground during those times. We are also asking that families and students use the shoveled spaces to walk and do not walk through the snowy yard. This is to help assure that no one falls and gets hurt. Thank you!
- Labeling Coats: We are asking families to label their child’s coat on the inside tag. This way if the coat gets lost we can return it to the rightful owner. We have had many winter coats end up in the lost & found and we want to prevent this from continuing.
- Arrival: Please keep in mind that the doors open at 8:15am and the official school day begins promptly at 8:30am. Please make sure to have your child arrive on time for the start of the day. Families are welcome to accompany their child to the class each morning between 8:15-8:35. After 8:35am all students will be marked tardy and cannot be escorted by families members to class.
- Dismissal: Dismissal begins at 2:25pm. We are asking all families to remain outside at dismissal. We are also asking families to not release students after 1:45pm. It makes for a hectic dismissal and is disruptive to classroom learning. Also to assure the safety of the 300+ students who participate in afterschool activities we will not be able to allow families back into the building to use the facilities after dismissal. There are not staff on duty to supervise this past 2:45pm.
