MCAS: MCAS will begin this week. Grades 4, 5 & 6 will take the ELA assessment on Tuesday, April 3rd and Wednesday, April 4th. Please make sure that your child gets a good night sleep, arrives to school on time and eats a healthy breakfast either at home or here at school. Principal Breakfast: Please join us for our April Principal Breakfast on Friday, April 6 from 8:45am-9:45am in the Upper School Library (2nd Floor between Room 205 and 206). We will be joined by Operational Superintendent, Ted Lombardi and we will be talking about school safety.

Curley Art Show: On April 12th from 5-7 pm we will host our Annual Art Show. There will be artwork from all students that have visual art as well as music from our fabulous band, a CAD dance performance and some of Mr. Paulling’s fabulous actors! Please encourage families and friends to come and see the amazing accomplishments and strides they made in the arts learning this year!

Green Cleaner Swap Day: Our Green Cleaner Swap Day has been POSTPONED to Tuesday, April 24th (7:45-10am). In order to ensure healthy air quality for all students, Curley staff will be switching our cleaners to be green cleaners. Due to this policy, we will be hosting a Green Cleaner Swap day on April 24th. We are still in need of parents to help label and distribute to all classes/ swap out cleaners. Please sign up or email nly@bostonpublicschools.org if you are interested. Can’t come but would love to help out? Consider donating paper towels to the school. You can drop off your paper towels at the front office (both lower and upper school) or drop it off in room 209 Upper School.

Playworks: Here are some updates from our partner Playworks.

• On Tuesday, April 3rd Mayor Marty Walsh is coming to the Curley. He will be visiting recess from 12:30 to 1:30 pm to see how Playworks makes a difference at the Curley.
• Thursday, May 10th from is Peace on Earth night! At recess across the country there has been numerous incidents of bullying both verbal and physical. Coach Jacqui wants to bring awareness to this growing problem and give the community the resources to support students. A local speaker will start off the night, and students and families will rotate through stations focusing on relaxation techniques and bullying prevention.
• On Saturday, May 19th is Playworks Run for Recess 5K. This is a fundraiser that Playworks hosts every year to raise money and awareness for the importance of recess in low income school systems. The Run for Recess is a unique 5K and One Mile Fun Run race that gives families the opportunity to participate in a race for the very first time. The Run for Recess offers opportunities for the whole family to get involved at Franklin Park’s world-famous cross-country course adjacent to the zoo! All participants will enjoy a fun family environment, an electronically timed race, and an awesome goodie bag. Red Sox Hats: Red Sox Hat Giveaway for K0-8th grade students this year! Jetblue and the Red Sox have generously donated hats for every student in grades K0-8.

• Time: Schools may pass out hats at any time during the day
• Who will Receive: All students grades K0-8 and their teachers
• *note: some staff hats may be delayed. These will arrive later in April. Please ensure all students receive hats first.
• Hat Delivery: Hats will be delivered to each school beginning 3/27 through 4/2 (but not 3/31)

2018 BPS Climate Survey – Due 5/1/2018: Parent, Teacher, and Student Climate Surveys will be released online on March 12th. Chromebooks and document cameras will be awarded to schools with high parent participation rates and the greatest improvement in parent participation. We are asking teachers to have students complete these in class and for families to complete these as well. Any families who need access to technology can complete these at the school with us. Design It Course Grades 3-5: Please join us in creating art design projects using the theme of respect – on respect for oneself and others, and respect for the environment. Parents and students will learn about the design process and collaborate together using art, mathematics, writing, and spoken word. This six-week course will end with an exciting art project focus as we develop exciting art in various forms. This course is for families of students in grades 3-5 and starts on Monday, April 30th from 6-8pm.
