Curley Mamas – October MFABS Is TONIGHT at Canary Square!

Kristin Jurkoic

mfabs
Hello Curley Mamas! The October Mamas, Friendship and Beverages for Survival, (MFABS for short), is TONIGHT!

For the newer mamas, the Curley has a tradition of MFABS meet ups on the last Thursday of the month since 2011.

It’s a great way to meet other moms from the Curley K8 community and beyond. There is no agenda other than to relax, share, vent and otherwise take a load off our busy minds and souls. This essential tradition has been on sabbatical last year but is back!

Change of venue though:

  • So how about TONIGHT, Thursday, October 29th
  • …at Canary Square
  • …from 8pm on?

Arrive when you can and leave when it suits you.

PLEASE SHARE THIS INVITE with any moms who might enjoy a night out! For more information, contact Kristin Jurkoic.

  • Halloween: The Curley K-8 will not have a Halloween celebration during the school day. As a community we are focused on health and wellness and therefore we ask that all candy remain at home. We are also asking that students leave all costumes, masks and face paint at home as well. Thank you in advance for your support around this matter.
  • ANet: Students in grades 3-8 just completed their first rounds of assessments online in both ELA and Math. Students worked very hard and we are proud of their efforts. Teachers will use the data to plan for further instruction.
  • Health & Wellness: Please join us for our next Health and Wellness Meeting on Tuesday, November 3rd from 7:30am-8:30am in room 208.
  • Principal Breakfast: Please join us for our next Principal Breakfast on Friday, November 6th from 8:45am-9:45am. We will be focusing on school safety and we will have district representation to lead us in a discussion around Safe Mode.
  • Movie Night: PACE will be hosting a Family Movie Night on Tuesday, November 10th from 5pm-7pm in the Curley auditorium. (There is no school on Wednesday in observance of Veteran’s Day.) Tickets will be $3 a person and will include the movie ticket, popcorn and water. All students must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event. Please email Ms. Mitchell with any further questions at kmitchell@bostonpublicschools.org.
  • Curley Shares: We concluded our first round of shares this past week. Be sure to check in with your child about the assembly.
  • Lost and Found: A lost and found bin has been established outside of the nurse’s office. If your child has lost or misplaced an item please have them check the bin. Starting in November the bin will be emptied on the first of the month. Unclaimed items will be donated to Good Will or washed and kept in the Nurse’s Office as extra clothing for Curley students. Thanks in advance for your support!
  • Arrival and Dismissal: Please keep in mind that the doors open at 8:15am and the official school day begins promptly at 8:30am. 5 DonorsChoose Projects Curley Teachers Would Love Help With

Heshan Berents-Weeramuni

DonorsChoose.org, a fundraising site many teachers use to raise resources for specific classroom projects, has been used by many Curley teachers to improve instruction for our students.

There are FIVE Curley projects currently in need of funding:

Ms. Moran wants to fund an ELMO document camera and projector to help engage all types of learners in all of our lessons.

Ms. Ferro aims to raise money for two iPod Touch devices to allow her 7th graders to access educational apps, such as Learning Ally, so that will assist them to better access the curriculum.

Ms. Goldstein seeks three storage benches that will be used in the combined block area and meeting area of her classroom. Children will be able to use the top of the benches as building platforms for block cities or ramps and marble runs. During meeting and for group times such as story time, the children will be able to sit on the benches or on the floor.

Ms. Mitchell, whose students are 3-4 years olds, seeks a computer and software so they will learn basic computer handling skills such as using a mouse and typing on a keyboard. The fun interactive computer games will teach them letter and number sense, as well as beginning reading skills.

Ms. Griffiths needs books, a projector to view videos, and a document camera to share books and view small animals for further understanding for her third graders.

Please help if you can, the link is below:

http://www.donorschoose.org/school/curley-k-8-school/62879/?active=true

The general DonorsChoose page that lists all our teachers is also here (a number next to their name shows an active project):

Many thanks to you all for helping our teachers help our kids.

This is a community chorus that is open to all members of the local community, including Curley students in grades 4-6. The chorus is also open to motivated and mature 3rd graders who love to sing. The first rehearsal will take place on October 8th and we hope to see you there! Please contact Jennifer or Matt at 617-482-7494 or email Matt at bailin@cmcb.org for information on how to register. Walk-in registrations with payments will also be accepted on our first day. Be sure to ask us about financial aid and payment plan options–our goal is to make this opportunity accessible for all who want to participate. Feel free to forward to your friends and neighbors–the more the merrier!
