Today is Giving Tuesday, which means it’s an especially great day to ask friends and family to make an end-of-year donation to the Curley.
Providing high-quality academic and enrichment activities is a priority of the School Parent Council, but it requires a significant financial commitment. Each year we spend tens of thousands of dollars to support music and arts, field trips, and other programs that touch every one of our students. That’s why we’re asking Curley parents to take part in our Friendraiser campaign.
Friendraisers are Curley parents who ask their friends, family, and co-workers to make an end-of-year donation to the school. We provide you with a customizable template that outlines our need for financial support and includes a link for donating online. Just copy and paste it into an email, then send it out to your circle. And because not everyone likes using the world wide interwebs, we can also create and print personalized letters that you just need to sign and drop in the mail. Send me a message to find out more about this option.
You’ll find the Friendraiser email template below. We hope you’ll consider using it to ask friends and family to lend their support to the Curley.

Dear ______________,
I don’t typically send fundraising solicitations to my friends and family, but this year I am asking that you consider making a donation to the Curley K-8, the school attended by ____________. The Curley, one of 128 Boston Public Schools, educates 800+ students from Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Dorchester, Roslindale and West Roxbury.
The Curley is filled with wonderful kids and a talented, passionate faculty, but it is a public school where resources are limited. We must do more with less, and are lucky to have a strong School Parent Council (SPC) that funds enrichment programs and activities. But they can only do so with continued financial support from friends, family, and the community.
Music is one of the largest parent-funded programs. Curley partners with the Community Music Center of Boston, a nonprofit organization that ensures every student receive music instruction. It is a $25,000 annual financial commitment funded entirely by the SPC, but it is money well spent. Whether it’s seeing the smiles of kindergarten students preforming at their first concert, or watching older students gain the confidence that comes through learning an instrument, music is a crucial part of our curriculum.
The SPC supports many other important programs and events. In past years, it’s funded a Museum of Science night for our students, purchased art supplies and materials for theatrical sets, and provided teachers with money for field trips to museums and cultural sites.
Our family believes strongly in the power of public education, and we love sending _________ to the Curley. Please help us ensure that it remains a great place to learn by donating at www.curleyk8.com.
Thank you for your support. Wishing you all the best for the upcoming holiday season.
