Spring Concert Wraps Up Successful Year of Music Instruction at Curley

Curley K-8 SPC

The Curley held its Spring Music Concert on May 22nd with a standing-room-only audience filling the auditorium. Performers from the K-1 through the 5th grade entertained the crowd with a variety of folk and popular songs, accompanied by recorders and drums.

Performances included “Mr. Sun” by the K2 students, a Ghanaian folk song called “Che Che Koolay” sung by the 1st Grade, Grade 2 and 3’s version of “Good Day Sunshine,” Ms. Mundo’ students’ rendition of “Stand By Me” in English and Spanish, and “I Want Candy” sung by the 5th graders. The Spring Concert Program is here.

For almost 20 years, the Curley has collaborated with the Community Music Center of Boston to provide music instruction to our students. This year, Patrice Monahan and Liza Kitchell from CMCB worked with our BPS music teacher, Jay Gates, to broaden and deepen our program, which was clearly on display at the concert. This collaboration is paid for by the fundraising of the School Parent Council, together with BPS and CMCB.

Many people were invaluable in making the concert happen. In addition to Patrice, Liza and Jay, a special thanks to Maria Monteiro-Roby, Ian Cartwright and the fabulous back-up band, which included Konstantinos Petmezsis.
