SPC end of year report

Curley K-8 SPC

Last Wednesday the School Parent Council held it’s final meeting of the school year. Over a potluck dinner, parents had a chance to mingle and begin thinking about next year’s SPC leadership and SCC parent representatives. Read the meeting minutes here.

Dave Demerjian and Genevieve Day have completed 2 years as co-chairs of the School Parent Council and are taking a well-deserved break. Molly Mariano has agreed to be a co-chair for next school year. Any parents interested in taking on this role along with Molly should contact her. New or newish parents welcome! Emily Litonjua will be taking over the secretary role from Lisa Foulger and Melissa Elow will continue as treasurer.

Plan to get involved in the Fall! More SCC slots and the SPC working groups will be filled at the first fall SPC meeting.

The school year is not over yet!!

3rd Annual RockMonitor Benefit Show at the Midway is Friday, June 20, 8 p.m. – This is a terrific way to celebrate the end of the school year (adults-only). The show will feature bands with ties to the Curley community (parents & teachers) at a legendary local rock club. The proceeds go to support Art and Music at the school. The headliner is the Curley’s music teacher Mr. Gates (AKA Rod Stewart) and it is not to be missed. Book your babysitters now!

Back-pack Letters – Please watch your child’s backpack for the SPC end-of-school year fundraising appeal and consider making a donation. SPC supports many school planned and unplanned school initiatives, your support is critical to continuing this work.

Playing Field – Due to the tireless work of the Playing Field Committee, the school will be getting a playing field behind the upper school. Construction will begin on July 1 and should be ready by September! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this amazing fundraising effort.

The School Parent Council would like to thank:

  • Principal Grassa on an amazing first year at the helm. Her strong leadership, energy and optimism are a true gift to this school.
  • Maria Monteiro-Roby and Betty Alverado – It’s difficult to imagine the school without them, and we thank them for their years of service.
  • All the teachers and staff who care for our children everyday.
  • Special thanks to the teachers and staff who won’t be returning to the Curley next year. We appreciate your contributions and you will be missed
  • All members of our community who volunteer, attend meetings and events, donate money, advocate for the school.
