The School Site Council (SSC) meeting where the FY15/16 budget will be presented by Principal Katie Grassa, will be held tomorrow, Tuesday 6th from 4:15pm-5:45pm in the library.
Our regularly scheduled meeting was to be next Tuesday, January 13th, but the BPS budget office has given all schools a deadline of tomorrow to vote and report back on budgets. We thus had to move the meeting at short notice, and to an earlier time to accommodate as many SSC members as possible.
Please see the minutes from the last meeting on the SSC’s page for an outline of the BPS’ enrollment projections for the Curley Principal Grassa reported at the last meeting. It is these enrollment projections which determine much of our budget.
The bottom line?
It is nowhere near as awful a budget as it was last year – or so we hope! The projections show that we will be adding a 3rd grade classroom, and our enrollments in most grades look relatively healthy.
But there is bad news.
We are alarmed to note that our SEI (Sheltered English Instruction) K2 classroom is slated to be eliminated. We are in the middle of registering our strong opposition to this move, and plan to do all we can to reverse this decision. The SEI K1 classroom was eliminated last year.
We will also set aside some time to discuss the new extended time proposal the Mayor has announced recently. The proposal must first be ratified by the Teacher’s Union. If passed, we would add 40 extra minutes to the school day.
All are welcome to attend.
