Principal Grassa’s Paw Prints (06/21/15)

Heshan Berents-Weeramuni

This week’s Paw Prints from Principal Katie Grassa:

  • Summer Reading: On Friday we sent home a packet about summer reading for students. We are asking each student to read for at least 30 minutes each day. There will be a calendar for students to document each day that they read. Students should bring this back to school with them in September and they will be invited to celebration as well as recognized at our first Curley Shares Assembly. We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable summer break!
  • Curley After School Program (CASP): The last day of CASP will be Thursday, June 25th.
  • 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony: The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 25th at 11am in the auditorium. Due to limited seating all students will receive three tickets to invite guests.
  • Last Day of School: Due to all the snow days the last day of school has changed and we had school on Wednesday, June 17th (Bunker Hill Day). As per tradition the last two days of school will be half days where pickup will be at 12:30pm: Friday, June 26th and the last day of school will be Monday, June 29th.
  • Top 10 Highlights of SY 2014-2015: This will be out final Paw Prints of the school year and we would like to reflect on our AMAZING year!
    1. There were 8 snow days this year! More than most of us can ever remember during a school year.
    2. CMCB spring and winter concerts had the auditorium filled with families for a standing room only performance.

    3. Dr. Chang’s visit to the Curley K-8 on the Listen and Learn Tour.
    4. Kindergarten “Make Way for Ducklings” performance led by Ms. Taylor Knight with over 100 students participating in the performance.
    5. Curley Cares campaign that included videos, photos, t-shirts, bracelets, awards, assemblies etc…
    6. Tenacity students competing in weekly tennis matches and learning about health and fitness.
    7. City Year morning greeting filled with music, cheers and High Fives!
    8. CASP 5th year anniversary celebration and performance.
    9. New signage posted around the building to allow families clear routes to travel throughout.
    10. And the number one highlight of SY 2014-2015 was the completion of our new playing field! So much time and effort went into assuring that our students had a safe space to play outside. I will never forget the energy and excitement at our opening ceremony. Thank you to all who made this possible!

  • Thank you: I would like to thank all the families for helping me during my 2nd year as principal. The support of the Curley families and JP community make my job as a principal more enjoyable. Our students all benefit from your generosity and your time is greatly appreciated. I look forward to strengthening our collaboration next year.
  • SY 2015-2016: Mark your calendars because the first day of school will be Tuesday, September 8th for 1st-8th grade students and Thursday, September 10th for K0/K1/K2. This is a change from the traditional start to school. See you soon!
