Principal Grassa’s Paw Prints (03/07/16)

Heshan Berents-Weeramuni

This week’s Paw Prints from Principal Katie Grassa:

  • Health and Wellness: Thank you to the Health and Wellness Committee for organizing an Environmental Walk Thru of both our buildings. There have had several post conversations and many items have already been fixed since Wednesday. We appreciate the collaborative process you designed and how quickly we were able to solve concerns. Thank you!
  • School Site Council: The SSC will hold it’s March meeting on Tuesday, March 8th from 5:30pm-7:00pm in Room 101 (Upper School). We will discuss SSC Bi-Laws, Uniform Surveys, hiring for SY 2016-2017 as well as the AWC for All Initiative. All are welcome to attend.
  • Hiring: We are looking for parents to help us with the interview process as we have many retirements, teachers leaving, new positions, and new teachers in provisional positions. Your voice is an important part in assuring we hire the best educators at our school. No prior experience is necessary. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the school and collaborate with teachers and administrators. Please email Katie Grassa (kgrassa@bostonpublicschools.org) if you are interested in helping any of these interview dates. We will also offer free daycare in CASP for those who need it.

  • Movie Night: On Wednesday, Mar. 16th PACE will hold a fundraiser. It is a family movie night from 5-7pm in the Upper School Auditorium. Tickets are $3 and will be sold at the door on the Centre Street entrance. All ages are welcome as long as children are accompanied by an adult and the ticket price will include water and popcorn. Our Hint about the Movie is… When I’m feeling happy, angry, scared, or sad I can watch this Oscar winning animated feature film and it is sure to make me feel glad.
  • Red Jacket Weekend 2016: Each year in September, City Year corps members and staff kick off their year of service with a large-scale service day benefiting a school in our communities. We are very excited to announce that next year, the Curley K-8 will be the host and beneficiary of this event. On a Saturday in September, around 750 volunteers from the City Year community will be coming out to the Curley and the surrounding community for a day of volunteering that will be organized by a specialized team from City Year. Projects for this type of event can include painting, murals, organization, landscaping, light construction and the creation of resources for students and teachers. Your input and feedback is essential for us to best align our projects with the needs of the school and we greatly appreciate you for taking the time to answer the questions using this link. Should you have any questions or want any additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Maria Ploessl at mploessl@cityyear.org.
  • No School: There will be no school on Thursday, March 17th in observance of Evacuation Day. There will also be no school on Friday, March 25th in observance of Good Friday.
  • 9th Annual Silent Auction: The 9th Annual Curley Silent Auction will take place on Tuesday, March 29th at Canary Square. Please save the date and join us for our largest fundraiser of the year. If you are interested in helping out or donating an item to auction off please email Ann DeGeorge at ann.c.degeorge@gmail.com. All of the proceeds from this event directly impact students at the Curley and support arts, science and technology.
