— Every parent at the Curley is automatically a member of the Curley School Parent Council aka: the “SPC”
— ALL positions are available to ALL parents/legal guardians at the Curley school.
— Please note: you do NOT NEED ANY EXPERIENCE to run for a position. *New parents should feel very welcomed to join/participate. We seek to engage all parents.
— It is important for parents to be involved as much as we can to help nurture the environment and provide the best climate possible for the 925+ students in our school.
— We’re formalizing structure and want to continue working collaboratively as a united parent council to address concerns, develop ideas, build partnerships and relationships to better serve our wide range of students and needs.
— We’ve also been working toward becoming a certified “Family Friendly School” with a climate where all of our voices are heard and partnerships are well established. *We need your voice/participation in this effort.
— See the attached document learn more about positions and roles we’ll be voting on: http://www.bpsfamilies.org/families/parent-councils/77-school-parent-council

4) “Teacher Appreciation Day” is Tuesday, May 3rd. Consider organizing your classrooms to recognize your teacher’s hard work. Even a note or card is nice. **In addition, the SPC will be celebrating our teachers at the Curley by providing a catered lunch at the school for all staff to enjoy. To volunteer for this casual (but special) event and/or provide a desert, treats, or decorations for the luncheon, please contact Ann: ann.c.degeorge@gmail.com or sign up here: http://doodle.com/poll/wpdw3pr73zgw5fwi

5) Wake Up The Earth Parade and Festival (aka: “WUTE”) is a long-standing tradition in JP. The Curley community comes together in our Curley gear (any T-shirt / patch / sticker/etc.) to walk the parade, holding banners and this year ‘another’ famous Curley Flying Lion (aka: Winged Lion) will be flying above us for the walk! (the Lion is made by art students at the Curley with Art teacher, Jesse Cardoso.) More about the Parade: http://eepurl.com/bY2gDT

For the parade, we meet at the monument/Curtis Hall in JP and departs promptly at 10:30 a.m. It arrives at the Stonybrook T-stop where a Curley SPC “base” (Table) will be. Please come and say hi or help out. Many families who plan to be at the Curley next year will be stopping by to ask A LOT of questions and buy T-shirts, stickers, etc.

Please help staff the Curley SPC table if you can. We could also use those who can face paint or some other kid-friendly craft. Please email: ann.c.degeorge@gmail.com to see what you can do or sign up on: http://doodle.com/poll/tz9g4aqgd6rcf949

6) Come to the School Site Council (aka: “SSC”) Meeting. The SSC is the governing/advisory body of our school. The SSC plays a vital role in the direction of the Curley and provides oversight of the protocol, plans and operations at the Curley. The SSC is a collaboration of parents, staff and the principal. Decisions of this body directly impact budget, programming, hiring, committees, goals of the school, and more. Everyone is welcome to attend these monthly meetings.

At this meeting, the SPC Arts committee will be joining for a 30-min discussion about the vision for music and arts at the Curley. Please come if you would like to know more about plans for the Curley Music and Arts curriculum and
programs.

Come to see what this committee is like so you may consider joining as one of the 6+ parent spots on this committee.

But super fun nonetheless – So, grab your friends, neighbors and family members and come on down!
