Winter Break
The winter break will take place from Friday, December 23rd – Tuesday, January 4th. All staff and students will return to school on Wednesday, January 4th.

SSC Meeting: THIS TUESDAY, Dec 13th, 5:30-7pm, Room 209
Our December SSC meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 13th from 5:30pm-7:00pm in Room 209. Families should enter through the CASP doors and walk straight up to the top floor, the room is located right at there. At this meeting we will have an opportunity to review student projections for SY 2017-2018 as well as the Budget for next year.

SPC Meeting: THIS WEDNESDAY, Dec 14th, 8:45am, Room 221
December’s SPC topic is Fundraising, and there is an exciting new opportunity to partner with Boosterthon. The program director of Boosterthon will join us on December 14th to explain this new fundraising event, which involves all Curley students, exercise, and fun. The School Parent Council hosts many fundraising events through out the year in order to support programming like Play works, Ballet Rox, Arts, school field trips, and much more. The recently launched Library and Technology Annual Appeal wants to increase access to technology and rebuild our library, so that all Curley students can benefit academically. The success of our school depends on the generosity and involvement of our families, friends and community. Join in the shopping Fun on December 16 and shop at select stores that will donate 10% of sales to the Curley. Please come and learn about all the new and fun up coming SPC events on December 14, at 8:45 am in room 221. Happy Holidays!

Curley Holiday Shopping Night: THIS FRIDAY, Dec 16th, 3-8pm!
This year Boing, On Centre, Kitchen Witch, Fire Opal, Caramelo and Streetcar will participate (with possible last-minute additions). This is a fun event that helps our school raise money, supports our local stores, and creates a great sense of community. You buy your Christmas and Hanukkah gifts and the stores donate a percentage of sales to the Curley. Win-Win!

Make it a family night or a date night! Please POST on Facebook and EMAIL friends to spread the word. If you have questions, please email or call Leah Barcan: lbarcan@gmail.com/617-599-0592.

Garden Gloves
We are looking for donations of garden gloves to further support our Keep It Clean initiative. Do you have any old gloves you are looking to donate? If so please contact Meg Nason (mnason@bostonpublicschools.org).

Curley Winter Gear Update
A big thank you to all those who have donated winter gear so far! It is much appreciated and being sent home with students every day. We still need more (coats, hats, mittens/gloves, boots, etc), especially as the days get colder. We can use all sizes, from 3t – adult. Donation boxes can be found in both the upper and lower school lobbies. If your child is in need of winter gear, please let his/her teacher know. Thanks for helping keep Curley kids warm this winter!

K-5 End of Term 1
Marks close for all students in K-5 on Friday, December 2nd. Report cards will go out to families the week of December 12th.

SNOW!
In preparation for the winter we would like to ask all families to talk with their children around throwing snow. We want all students to be safe as they enter and exit school and we are asking that all adults and students leave the snow on the ground during those times. We are also asking that families and students use the shoveled spaces to walk and do not walk through the snowy yard. This is to help assure that no one falls and gets hurt. Thank you!

Please Label Your Coats
We are asking families to label their child’s coat on the inside tag. This way if the coat gets lost we can return it to the rightful owner. We have had many winter coats end up in the lost & found and we want to prevent this from continuing.

School Preview Volunteers Needed
We are looking for family volunteers to support our upcoming School Previews. These are building tours for perspective families and Curley families help to lead and share information from a parent’s point of view. All families are welcome to participate and no prior experience is necessary (we will partner you up with others). The preview dates will take place on Friday, January 13th from 9am-1pm and Monday, January 23rd from 3pm-4pm. Please email Arusha Hollister (arusha_h@yahoo.com) if you Doodle Poll: Doodle: Curley Preview Tours

ELT
BPS is returning to the idea of expanding the school day for our students in K-8. We will be adding 40 minutes to our day for school year 2017-2018. At this time we are in the planning phase and we do not have any information about school hours. We will update families as soon as we have concrete information. In the meantime if you have any idea or questions please reach out to our two parent ELT representatives Jess Curran (jessicacurran@ymail.com) and Ann DeGeorge (ann.c.degeorge@gmail.com).

Race Dialogues
Thank you to all the families and staff who came out for our first session. We have 1 remaining session from 5:30pm-7:30pm on 12/15. Dinner, daycare and translation are all available. Please email any questions to Sean Guthrie (sguthrie@bostonpublicschools.org).
