NAEP Testing grades 4th and 8th: The Curley K-8 School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on 3/8/2017 (8th grade) and 3/9/2017 (4th grade). NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. It is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessment because it provides a common measure of student achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.

Students at the Curley K-8 School are going take a mathematics or reading assessment. The assessment takes about 90 to 120 minutes and students might take a computer based or paper test. The results of the assessment are completely confidential (in accordance with the Confidential Information Protection provisions of Title V, Subtitle A, Public Law 107-347).

Parents with children in grades 4th and 8th received a letter informing them about the NAEP Assessment and other helpful information. It is important to note that the information collected is used for statistical purposes only. Students may be excused for any reason, are not required to complete the assessment, and may skip any question. While the assessment is voluntary, NAEP depends on student participation to help policymakers improve education. If parents do not want their children to participate, they are able to opt out. However, parents need to notify the school in writing by February 28, 2017.

ELT: Our school hours for next year will be 8:30am-3:10pm. We will continue to offer a before and after school program here as well.

Welcoming Statement: We want all Curley families to know that we are a safe and welcoming space for all. The diversity of our school is viewed as a strength and you are welcome no matter your religion, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, language, national origin or ability level. Please know that we CARE about ALL PEOPLE and you will always be safe and welcomed in our community.
