8th Grade Parent Night:

The Guidance Office is hosting a High School Information Night for 8th grade students and their families on Thursday, October 26th, from 5-7pm. During this event, we will share information about the upcoming high school application process including common application requirements and the types of BPS high schools. We will also discuss ways in which parents/guardians can support their student during this process. We would appreciate your support in promoting this event by encouraging students to attend this event with their families.

Fundraiser on Tuesday 10/31/17 To Support Hurricane Victims:

We all know that the 2017 hurricane season has taken a devastating toll on over a dozen nations in the Caribbean, Central America and North America. Three of our middle school classes will be raising money and collecting donated items for people in need. Our Curley Cares goal is to collect essential items and raise $5,000 to send to several charities. We are hoping that every community member will consider contributing $5 and/or essential items. To celebrate our efforts, we are facilitating our Pajama Day on October 31st. We would love to see our entire Curley Community wearing pajamas and our specialized bracelets on this day. Our middle school students will enjoy a Movie Screening Celebration as well. All monetary donations are appreciated! Essential items we will collect include:

  • small AM/FM radios that use AAA or AA batteries that are easy to find
  • D and C batteries
  • AA and AAA batteries
  • insect repellent
  • tooth paste
  • tooth brushes
  • deodorants
  • first aid kits
  • triple antibiotics
  • mash potatoes in powder form
  • shaving items
  • towels
  • hand sanitizers
  • feminine hygiene
  • coloring books and crayons
  • soap
  • underwear for all ages
  • Halloween:

The Curley K-8 will not have a Halloween celebration during the school day. As a community we are focused on health and wellness and therefore we ask that all candy remain at home. We are also asking that students leave all costumes, masks, face painting and clown paraphernalia at home as well. Thank you in advance for your support around this matter. Attached is our Celebrations Policy Curley K-8 Celebration and Reward Policy_memo.

    Playworks:

Another unique opportunity Playworks offers is after school sports leagues! In the upcoming weeks, we will be actively recruiting a co-ed volleyball team for the winter. This is a unique and exciting opportunity available to 4th/5th grade students to be able to represent the Curley K-8 community and play against other Playworks schools across the city. Coach Jacqui will be recruiting a full team of 10-12 students starting this week up until the first week of practice on October 31th to participate. Practices will be on October 31st 3:30-4:30 and games will be played 1x per week at the Orchard Gardens K-8 School in Roxbury, MA between 5:00 – 8:30 pm. The entire length of the season will be six weeks from 11/6-12/11. Students will have the opportunity during the first week of leagues to participate in a volleyball extravaganza! This is where Playworks students from all over Boston will come together to play in a variety of stations and learn new skills. The remaining five weeks will be standard games. Playworks leagues are strictly developmental, we do not keep score & we encourage good sporting behavior. Please contact Coach Jacqui with questions at jacqueline.conley@playworks.org.

    Progress Reports Grades 6-8:

Parents should be on the lookout for Progress Reports coming home with their students on Monday, October 23rd. This is a great opportunity for families to sign on to BPS Gradebook with their child and reach out to the teachers if you have questions. There is still time for students to improve their grades and we want to collaborate with you to make this happen!
